My Personal Collection- A Personal History Exercise

Individuals have been collecting items and artifacts since before recorded history.  A personal collection provides a rare view into one’s personality that may never be revealed through a traditional interview process.  Personal collections range from priceless works of art to utilitarian items like toasters and plumbing fixtures.

Regardless of the monetary value of a personal collection, the items that you have collected over the years tell a story about who you are and add to the fabric of your experiences.  By sharing the background of your collection with others, they can gain a greater insight into your personal history.

The purpose of this exercise is for you to identify and describe the motivational factors that influenced the creation of your collection.  The information gleaned from this exercise is intended to be passed on to friends and family members, so future generations might have a better sense of who you are based on how your collection helped define who you are.

This exercise is 12 pages long and asks 31 questions to help you identify how your life may have been affected by the itmes you chose to collect.
